allegory and McCarthyism and The Crucible the first you know what the Red Scare was Communist were referred to as red sue their allegiance to the red Soviet flag in during this time there was a scare over Soviet Union spies within America people were very afraid of this and it led the government to drilling official MSR boil tm2 America it did begin to fade in the late 1950s when are the important figures of this time was Joseph McCarthy and he play was a Senator during the Red Scare he actually investigated allegations made in the government movie industry labor unions Army also entertain personalities he's been 5 years trying to expose Americans were working for the Soviet Union because a lot of panic and mistrust in a lot of his accusations were proven untrue McCarthy claims that he had a list of 205 known members of the Communist Party we're working in shaping policy in the state department he again May dunce McLean's and had people investigated the problem with having people investigate it was they were then placed on a blacklist they lost their neighbors they lost their friends and they lost their jobs and we're not able to be hired by a new employer because they were placing this Blacklist and people did not trust them a few people who you familiar with who are actually placed on this Blacklist or were Arthur Miller he wrote The Crucible you have actor Humphrey Bogart actor James Cagney and actress Katharine Hepburn w e b DuBois was actually placed on this as well we looked over one of his texts and class in Langston Hughes who was a poet  so what happened to McCarthy spell journalist Ed Murrow begin to question McCarthy's accusations and his abuse of power which really highlighted what was going on and Senators begin to pronounce McCarthy and a couple months later I believe he actually died of liver failure so how is The Crucible an allegory well first and allegory is a double story it's one story that serves as a hidden or double meaning for something that is going on in The Crucible we actually have an allegory of two situations or two stories the first one AMD historical reflection of the Salem witch trials and The Witch Trials really stood for that abuse of power so you have a town under pressure and what what Kansas witness town is under pressure what does power leave them to do you also have power as a way to acquire land or get rid of those you do not care for so those were accused of Witchcraft were hung if they didn't you know confess and therefore their land was up for grabs and then you have the powerful women and how that was a No-No during the time and a lot of these powerful women were accused and then killed because of these accusations a story to looks at you know in Miller's time that hunt for communist and Miller was one of the accused and he really kind of wanted to light this abuse of power and you know what it can lead to so why did Miller write The Crucible again to explain the dangers of unchecked power it was he's dangerous and the guys of a witch trial then you know writing a play about hunting communist a side note he was not interested in preserving the accuracy of the Salem Witch Trials again just really wanted to show abuse of power so some of the historical inaccuracies to name a few and there's a lot more than this or that the accusations to not start because of the team love affairs we didn't start because Abigail was in love with John Proctor the number of girls was actually an accurately portrayed Abigail's age is an accurate she's portrayed in the story and in the movie as being 17 she was actually 11 Abigail at one point shakes Patty and tells her sing about her mother being dead that his mother was actually alive and John Proctor was not a farmer but a Tavern keeper to the reference as I used to this presentation are listed here and feel free to use them for your papers
