Tasty VideoTikTok

Obj: Demonstrating the knowledge of cooking terms, culinary techniques and planning procedures in a lab setting using technology as demonstrated in the world of computers and/or phones. Some of you created a video similar to a Tasty Video back in February, but now you are creating it on your own.

  1.    You are assigned to create a video lasting approximately 1-3 minutes to show you making an item (food, dessert, snack, anything!!!) Whatever you cook does not have to come from complete scratch! Even a grilled cheese will count or a quesadilla if you will.

  1.  The following criteria should be used as a guideline
  1. Video should show the materials needed and state clear instructions.
  2. You should record each step of the way so that others could follow the video and recreate the recipe.
  3. Show the final product once you have plated and set it up pretty!

Use TikTok videos for inspiration. Record you and your mom cooking.  It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t turn out exactly, those will make for funny videos too.

  1. Videos should be emailed to me by Friday April, 24th
  1. Best videos will be showcased on the JHS Facebook page!

Advanced Culinary Arts
Week of 4/13 - 4/17

Baking Challenge

You are to work with your parent or older sibling to bake up some kind of dessert out of things in your home. I am not saying it can’t be a cold dessert that requires no baking, but it would be ideal you turn on the oven and bake up something awesome. For example: I had some bananas that no one was going to eat so I looked up a recipe and made banana bread! This way you do not let food go to waste and you make something delicious out of it. Here is your schedule for the week.

Monday, April 13th - Research! Research! Research! Find desserts that you like and that you feel confident you can recreate. (A cake, cookies, bread, gelatin) If you have store bought mix use it!!! I know it is hard to find ingredients, so you have to get creative with what you have available.

Tuesday, April 14th - Get organized! Look at what items you have available and what your recipe requires. Be on the lookout for items you can replace if you do not have a specific ingredient. EXAMPLE- If it calls for self-rising flour google how much baking soda and baking powder you can add to all purpose flour to make up the rising effect the flour needs.  If you do not have baking powder look up how much baking soda it will take to make up the difference. Most recipes you can sub ingredients and the outcome is the same.

Wednesday, April 15th - Schedule a time to bake! You need an adult to supervise and help you, therefore let your adult know ahead of time and figure out when they will be available. That being said value their time and have everything laid out ready to start for the scheduled time. Your adult can help you record the process by either taking pictures or recording a video of the process.

Thursday, April 16th - Finish up your baked item. If you did a cake and want to ice it or add a glaze and set it up pretty on a dish or plate for your final pictures/video.  If you did cookies or a gelatin plate them as pretty as you can.

Friday, April 17th - Take a picture of your family enjoying what you created. I would like to see the process so either make a short video of how you made the item and then your family enjoying it or send me pictures of the process to my email.

I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with! Of course, you may email me any questions or for help. If anyone wants the banana bread recipe, I made let me know. Your parents are also good source of recipes use them to get ideas. Trust yourself we created some awesome food this year, you can create anything you want!
