Health Science – Erin Reynolds

Hello students! I hope you have had a chance to start working on your Term 4 packets!  Remember that is how you will be getting your Term 4 grade (unless your Term 3 grade is higher).  But I am still providing some enrichment assignments throughout the remainder of the year.

Continue to check your school email daily and please email me if you have any questions!  I can’t wait to see y’all next year!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Our enrichment this week will focus on mental health.  So here is the plan:

Monday May 18, 2020: Send me an email updating me on how YOU ARE DOING!  I want to know how you have been spending your time, how you have been feeling, what you have been missing, what you are excited for… basically I just want a check-in from you.

My email address is erin.reynolds@jisd.org

Tuesday May 19, 2020: I want you to find a Mental Health Awareness photo, quote, graphic, etc. and post it to one/all of your social media sites.   Remember a big push of Mental Health Awareness is “Breaking the Stigma” and in order to do that we must share facts and educate. Screen shot your post and email it to me! (You can find things to post on Google images, pinterest, or even Team.abers from last May)

Wednesday May 20, 2020: Today I want you to focus on a breathing exercise.  Watch this video  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yaulf91W44 for a guided breathing exercise to reduce stress. I want you to practice this breathing exercise for the 5 min is recommends, even get some family members to join in with you.  Send me a brief email when you are finished to tell me how it made you feel.

Thursday May 21, 2020: Visit this website https://www.actionforhappiness.org/ and explore the information.  Then create a poster (regular piece of paper not huge poster board) that shares things that make you happy.  Email a picture of that poster to me.

Friday May 22, 2020: A huge part of mental health is knowing when to take a break.  So today your assignment is to TAKE A BREAK!!!!  Do something that makes you happy and relaxed (only healthy and approved actions)!!!!

Hello students! I hope you have had a chance to review Mr. Peacock’s video over the Term 4 grading policy.  Please reach out to me if you have any questions about the assignment.  I will still be posting some enrichment assignments throughout the remainder of the year.

Continue to check your school email daily and please email me if you have any questions!  I can’t wait to see y’all next year!

This week I want to switch gears and focus on some CPR concepts to review.  Although we worked on becoming BLS certified in class, I do feel it is important as a healthcare provider to understand the concept of “hands only” CPR as well.  This week you will watch some training videos located on the following link:

https://www.projectadam.com/CPR-Resource

Monday May 4th: Watch the video titled “Hands Only CPR & AED Training”.  After the video take moment and email me a list of the steps to CPR for a victim you have witnessed collapse.

Tuesday May 5th: Watch the video titled “Benchmark CPR/AED”

Wednesday May 6th: Teach a family member how to do “hands only CPR”.  Then email me a short statement explaining to me who you taught and how you think it went.

Thursday May 7th: Watch the video titled “Life Threatening Emergencies Training”

Friday May 8th: Create a post on social media (IG, Twitter, Snapchat, etc) that advocates for the importance of knowing “Hands only CPR”.  Take a picture of the post and email it to me.

Principles of Health Science – Mrs. Bradford

Hello students! I hope you have had a chance to start working on your Term 4 packets!  Remember that is how you will be getting your Term 4 grade (unless your Term 3 grade is higher).  But I am still providing some enrichment assignments throughout the remainder of the year.

My email address is Abby.bradford@jisd.org

I will set up another Zoom meeting for this week.  Please keep an eye out on your school email for the meeting time and invite. I will be sending you a link and password to our class Zoom meeting.  At this time we will be able to talk about the new Term 4 grading policy that Mr. Peacock has sent out, as well as discuss the final from TJC.  Be sure to be checking your school e-mail for the invitation.  I look forward to seeing your lovely faces then.  If you need help or have questions before our Zoom meeting, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via my school email  Abby.bradford@jisd.org.

Daily Assignments:

All week: We all chose to be health care workers because we want to help others.  That is exactly what I want you to do this week.  I want you to spend time this week helping.  Help a sibling with school work, help clean around the house/yard, help the elderly, send letters to your family, etc.  Do something to show you care.  Try to do something helpful every day.  On Friday, I want you to send me a one-pager, let me know what you did, how it made those you helped feel, and how it made you feel.  We are in this pathway because we have a heart that wants to help, now is the time to show it.  Now, while helping, I still want you to practice all social distancing and hygiene guidelines.  Do not put yourself or anyone else in danger but find a way to help or show you care.

I will set up another Zoom meeting for this week.  Please keep an eye out on your school email for the meeting time and invite. Daily Assignments:

Monday: Log onto  https://www.choosemyplate.gov/ and scroll down.  You will see a spot that talks about the different food groups (fruit, vegetables, protein, etc.).  Read over these and then make a list of which foods from each category you ate during your 5-day recall.

Tuesday: Starting today, I want you to come up with a meal plan for you and your family.  Tell me how many people are in your family.  Make a plan for each meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as snacks)

Wednesday: Make a grocery list for your meal plan

Thursday: Pretend to go grocery shopping online and find out how much it would cost to eat the meals you picked for that week.

Friday: Send me everything for this week.

Now that we have been working from home for a couple of weeks, I think this would be a great time to set up a Zoom meeting.  Please keep an eye out on your school email.  I will be sending you a link and password to our class Zoom meeting.  Please bring any questions you may have to that meeting.  Mrs. Reynolds and I will be there to help and answer them for you.  If  you need help, or have questions before our meeting, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via my school e-mail.  Abby.bradford@jisd.org.

Daily Assignments:

Monday: Watch the video titled “Crash Course: Digestive System Part 1”. Please take notes over the video.

Tuesday: Watch the video titled, “Crash Course: Digestive System Part 2”. Please take notes over the video.

Wednesday: Starting today, I want you to start doing a 5-day recall of your diet.  Just write it down on paper, or keep it in your notes on your phone.   For 5 days, I want you to write down everything you eat and drink and when.  This way you can see what your diet looks like.  It is always a little surprising when you see it on paper.

Thursday: Continue your 5-day diet recall. Make sure you are keeping an accurate account of everything you eat and drink. This includes snacks, just “trying” something, water, etc.

Friday: Watch the video titled “Bill Nye Nutrition” and answer the questions on the matching worksheet. Take a picture of the worksheet, or type out your answers and email them back to me.  Keep working on your 5-day recall.  We will work with this more next week.

Each day, I want you to pick a different profession that you are interested in or would like to know more about.  Read the interview and then at the bottom, I want you to pick another person from the bottom under the “view other professionals in the field” section.  Once done, answer the questions provided on the “Career Exploration” worksheet in a PowerPoint.  You will add to this each day as you research another profession.  At the end of the PowerPoint, I want you to have a slide explaining which profession is most interesting to you and why.  If you cannot find the information needed to answer the questions on the worksheet, feel free to research the career a little further.  Just be sure to site any additional sources you use.
