Course Description: Beginning Art: This class fulfills the fine art requirement for graduation. Art 1 students learn basic design through use of the Elements and Principals of Art. Focus is on basic design, drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Students explore perception, creative expression, historical and cultural heritage and critical evaluation.

Course Description: Intermediate Art: Prerequisite – Successful completion of Art 1.
Art II: This course provides further exploration of creative expression. Basic design is demonstrated through thoughtful use of Elements and Principals of Art. Students explore perception, creative expression, historical and cultural heritage and critical evaluation. Students receive more in-depth instruction in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture techniques.

Course Description: Advanced Art: Prerequisite – Successful completion of Art 1 and Art II.
Students explore perception, creative expression, historical and cultural heritage and critical evaluation. Students at the Art III level should demonstrate command of the elements and principals of art and be comfortable speaking about their artwork. Students will be expected to investigate their personal artistic expression through drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.
Course: Art IV
Credit: 1.0 credit

Course Description: Prerequisite – Successful completion of Art 1, Art II and Art III.
This class is recommended for students wishing to pursue Art at the college level. Focus will be on creating a well rounded art portfolio showing a concentration in either medium or subject matter. Students will be expected to work independently. The class will have regular portfolio evaluations and critiques. By the second semester, students will be expected to write an artist statement and be researching and applying for college entry and scholarship opportunities. As a final exam, students will be expected to edit and present their portfolio and speak about their area of concentration using precise vocabulary of Art.
Course: AP Studio Art 2-D Design

Course Description: is not based on a written examination; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year. There are two distinct portfolios: the General Portfolio and the Drawing Portfolio. Since no standards, universally, valid studio art course can or should exist, the AP Studio Art Development Committee suggests guidelines for the submission of and AP portfolio rather than delineating a specific course. The portfolios are designed to allow freedom in structuring AP Studio Art courses while keeping in mind that the quality and breadth of the work should reflect first-year college-level standards. Therefore, the major responsibility for creating an AP course in art and preparing work to submit for evaluation belongs to the participating teachers and students. Seven extra points will be calculated into the student’s overall GPA each semester for this class. Art II or III is a prerequisite. Fee required.
Course: AP Studio Art 3-D Design

Course Description: students are asked to demonstrate understanding of 3-D design through any three dimensional approach, including, but not limited to, figurative or nonfigurative sculpture, architectural models, metal work, ceramics, glass work, installation, performance, assemblage and 3-D fabric/fiber arts.
